Agricultural Field Officers

BCP is seeking to recruit dynamic individuals as Agriculture Field Officers to be based in:

MULOBEZI x1, KAOMA x1, LUFWANYAMA x1, KASEMPA x1, and SESHEKE x1.

This role is open to all qualified applicants; however, preference will be given to candidates who are residents of the Kafue-Zambezi Community Forest Project partner Chiefdoms and are proficient in the dialects of the area. Residing in the advertised sites will be an added advantage. The successful candidates will be responsible for increasing food production and nutrition security in the Kafue-Zambezi Community Forest Project partner Chiefdoms and contributing to getting KZ Project to Verification ready by 2026. Additionally, the role will be responsible for improving the incomes of households around KZ Project Areas in Mulobezi, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama, and Kasempa sectors by sustainably growing enough crops for subsistence and excess surplus sales. The Agriculture Field Officer has a key role in engagement by communicating to communities that these livelihood investments are a result of protecting community forests through the REDD+ Project.  The link between BCP’s Agricultural program and REDD+ has to be 100% clear to the beneficiaries.  The Agriculture Field Officer will need to contribute to catalyzing.

Responsibilities:

  • Partnerships with GRZ, NGOs, and others to scale up Climate Smart land preparation, planting, irrigation, and harvesting within Mulobezi, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama, and Kasempa sectors.
  • Technical support to partners and communities to maximize yields and household security among communities living adjacent to the Community Forests.
  • Improvements in food and nutrition security and household incomes for 2275 households in each sector.
  • Catalyzing Mulobezi, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama, and Kasempa Sector farmers’ sales and marketing of surplus crops.
  • Innovative Climate Smart demonstration plots to eliminate the need for communities to make use of fertilizers or tractors.
  • Introduce diversification of drought and flood-resistant crops (e.g. Millet, Sorghum, and Cassava)
  • Plan and direct development and production of hybrid plant varieties with high yield or disease and insect resistant characteristics that are area specific and do well in Mulobezi, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama, and Kasempa sectors.
  • To effectively communicate internally & externally following the BOB ‘breakthroughs & blockages’ principle.
  • Actively contributing to communications efforts i.e. Slack, blogs, images, and Facebook updates.

Alliance Builders Wanted:

  • A minimum of a Diploma and/or a higher qualification in Agriculture or a related field from a reputable agricultural college.
  • A motor bike rider’s license, with experience, will be an added advantage.

Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience required in an agricultural sector.
  • Computer skills and full command of Microsoft applications required.
  • Demonstrates integrity, fairness and cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Strong commitment to achieving goals laid out by company.
  • Establish strong leadership skills in the form of resourcefulness, initiative and maturity of judgement.
  • Ability to establish effective working relations in a multicultural team environment.
  • Candidate must be innovative and develop techniques for conservation farming.
  • Ability to work and cope in a stressful environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to motivate a team to achieve a common goal.
