Reserve Manager – Rufunsa Conservancy


BCP is recruiting for a Reserve Manager, Rufunsa Conservancy (RC), to guide BCP into a new phase of conservation impacts and partnership building.  The primary responsibility of the Reserve Manager is to ensure conservation is enhanced through sound resource protection efforts and land management activities. The job title is focused on ensuring positive impacts towards biodiversity and achieve the management plan objectives of the conservancy. This is a field-based position that requires a wide range of field-based skills in rural and remote locations.

The candidate is not only expected to be a Reserve Manager, but a relationship builder, and a coach.


  • Prepare the management plan together with the Conservation Leadership Team, for all resource conservation and infrastructure maintenance and improvement activities.
  • Assist in implement all monitoring and reporting systems such as SMART and EarthRanger for effective reporting.
  • Have knowledge of and be able to support scout deployments and operations in collaboration with stakeholders (CA, DNPW, CSL, GMA’s etc.)
  • Assist in developing annual work plans with clear priorities and ensures effective implementation through the use of task management tools such as Asana, Toggle, SmartSheets etc.
  • Coordinating and providing logistical support to conservation staff and activities – where it may be required.
  • Manage and oversee the maintenance of infrastructure and all equipment and ensure 100% working condition– achieved through regular inventories.
  • Lead and oversee all aspects of landscape-level REDD+ management and planning processes relating to effective land management practices – including implementation of effective and responsible land management, capacity building, effective community and stakeholder engagement, forest monitoring coordination, biodiversity monitoring systems, effective Government engagement, infrastructure development and fire management.
  • Oversee the refinement of, and implementation of, a fire management plan on site (and potentially other sites) and take part in regular refresher training.
  • Assist in coordinating aerial support to partners.


Our expectation is that only those applicants who meet the following criteria need apply:

  • At least 5 years experience in reserve management, conservation practice, or a similar field or in a similar combination of education and experience
  • A degree or diploma in APU/Wildlife Management/Conservation/ Ecology would be advantages
  • Knowledge of resource protection, forest management, and capacity building amongst community institutions.
  • Knowledge in – and up-to-date with conservation, wildlife practices, and trends
  • Experience in SMART and EarthRanger
  • A Project Management post-graduate qualification, people management, and leadership skills would be advantageous. We’re looking for someone who wants to make a difference and puts team and partnership first.
