Are you a pro at Content Creation? A Marketing Whizz? Can you bring any story to life? And an Event Planner of note? Then this is the job for you! BCP is recruiting for a Communications Specialist (Lusaka based with a need to travel to our sites across the country on a needs basis).

BCP’s mission is “making conservation of wildlife habitat valuable to people”. We work with Community and Government partners to help improve the conservation management of over 1 million hectares of globally significant wildlife habitats in Zambia, benefiting over 225,000 people. Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and managing the Department’s annual Work Plan and budget in line with the development and the implementation of BCP’s annual Communications and Marketing plan, and BCP’s PR Risk Mitigation Strategy.
  • Mobilize content, writing, editing, design oversight and publishing of content (e.g. website oversight, brochures, newsletters, blogs, videos, infographics and all BCP artwork) and creating a database to store diverse marketing content.
  • Manage BCP’s website (bcp.earth)
  • Design and produce professional annual project specific and general BCP brochures, an annual Impact Report, and all external facing marketing material.
  • Release Mailchimp E-Newsletters on a monthly basis and upload updates to BCP’s blog channel once a week.
  • Produce, conduct and oversee communication and marketing training and awareness campaigns for all on boarding staff, and conduct communications training with the most updated knowledge of the industry twice yearly to all BCP employees (either in person or over zoom).
  • Oversight and design of marketing, promotional and communications materials through print and digital media and other means (e.g. vehicle stickers, posters, branded clothing, office and project signs and billboards, and all physical promotional materials).
  • Site Visits as part of the Annual work plan cycle.
  • Align the department’s plan with BCP’s 4 Year Strategic Plan, working across departments and sites to ensure the communications team is supporting the teams to meet all of the requirements in BCP’s road map to meet the 4 Year Strategic Plan.
  • Develop, implement and maintain social media communication system though Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn, in line with the Communications and Marketing plan.  Using the different platforms to produce engaging, contemporary and news worthy content that reflects topical matters in the media, and tailored to meet the various different channels used.
  • Provide clear guidance and support to BCP’s Communications Officer thoroughly weekly check-ins, consistent and constructive feedback and training missions to the field.
  • Manage relations with service providers such as photographers, website designers, videographers and vendors.
  • Build a consistent and visible brand identity through all sales, marketing, communications and promotional activities in support of VCU sales efforts. This requires the constant monitoring and updating of relevant marketing and communications material and content on BCP’s behalf.
  • Work with vendors and community engagement team members to develop community-based messaging in support of BCP’s objectives, such as CCB.
  • Lead on and assist with events co-ordination and planning.
  • Develop and continue to evolve the branding strategy using the Brand Guideline as a starting point.
  • Work closely with Human Resources to build internal culture and support improvement of NPS scores.
  • Enhance BCP’s methods to effectively communicate project impacts to partners and key stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Build strong internal and external communications culture.
  • Provide daily news and media briefs to BCP’s Executive Management Team and Board of Directors on carbon market trends, relevant news and updates on all areas that are applicable to the projects, such as (but not limited to): climate, conservation, biodiversity, community, agroforestry and Zambia’s top news stories of the day.
  • Represent BCP at public forums, speaking engagements, conferences and events (either in-person or online).
  • The ability to respond in a timely and professional manner to media enquiries.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of at least 2 Years in similar roles (with experience in the carbon market, climate finance, REDD+, environmental protection, community development or conservation sectors in particular as an added plus).
  • Minimum of a Degree or Master’s degree (preferred) in Communications, Media Studies, Public Relations, Graphic Design or Journalism.
  • Background in graphic design on a recognized design software (such as the adobe suite creative cloud, Canva Pro, etc).
  • Experience in photography and videography.
  • Experience in managing a WordPress Site.
  • A proven record in managing Microsoft office platforms such as PPT, word and excel.
  • Experience in events planning.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English Language is required.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong people and ‘networking’ skills.
  • Strong communicator, and confident speaker and writer.
  • The ability to handle PR in a crisis.
  • A strong understanding of the relevant sector is important to bring to the role.
  • Good understanding of SEO and google analytics.

Chosen candidates will be required to show a portfolio of past work, and will need to take part in both an oral and written test as part of the interview stage.
