People working across 17 Chiefdoms
Working across over 1.2 million hectares of threatened forests in 17 Chiefdoms throughout Zambia, BCP’s mission is to make conservation of wildlife habitat valuable to people. BCP employs over 200 people across 7 sites in Zambia. With plans to expand regionally, our life-changing impacts and emission-reduction conservation efforts are only going to grow!
The Lower Zambezi REDD+ Project was our initial pilot project. Since its inception, we have achieved unique milestones for both Zambia and Africa by becoming the first Verified Carbon Standard verified project in the country and then achieving 9 consecutive verifications.
LZRP was also the first REDD+ project in Africa to earn gold-level validation against all 3 categories for the Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Standard for our exceptional community level and environmental impacts. We are most proud of our community impacts, that wildlife numbers are increasing in the Lower Zambezi REDD+ Project, and of our hard-working and committed team.
In the 2023 Environmental Finance’s Voluntary Carbon Market Rankings, LCFP was the world’s best individual offsetting project, while our Impact Report was voted the Best Impact Monitoring Report in the World for the third year in a row, and we won Best Project Developer – Biodiversity.
In 2021 the LCFP was awarded Best Individual Offsetting Project. In 2021 and 2022, BCP featured Runner-Up as the world’s best forest carbon offset developer and in the overall carbon developer categories.
In 2022 both LZRP and LCFP were appointed to the Natural Climate Solution Alliance. The NCS Alliance (NCSA) has been established to convey the voice of businesses, NGOs, and solution providers on the need to mobilize a high-integrity demand for high-quality NCS. The NCS Alliance focuses on identifying opportunities and barriers to investment in the NCS voluntary carbon market and also serves as a forum for knowledge sharing and technical capacity building to ensure natural climate solutions reach their full potential in abating climate change.
Ranked amongst the top 5% of B Corps globally, in 2021 and 2022 BCP was awarded the “Best for Workers’ out of over 4,000 registered B Corp companies worldwide for our commitment to our BCPeople.
