Impact Monitoring Officer- KZCFP

We are seeking an Impact Monitoring Officer (IMO) for the Kafue Zambezi Community Forest Project (KZCFP). Based in Lusaka with regular travel to project sites, the IMO will report to the Chief Operations Officer and support the Project Coordinator. This role will oversee monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems, data management, and reporting for KZCFP, integrating with BCP’s broader impact monitoring ecosystem.

Effective monitoring and reporting are vital to demonstrating project progress and impact to stakeholders. The IMO will support the development of robust results frameworks with measurable indicators, baselines, and targets, ensuring alignment with BCP’s M&E policy and tight evaluation timelines.

The role includes tracking results using BCP’s Impact Monitoring Manual (IM V2) and Power BI, ensuring timely, accurate reporting in line with internal guidelines. The IMO will collaborate closely with the Project Coordinator, Sector Managers, and project staff to design and implement internal monitoring tools that strengthen project management and accountability.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensures the implementation of impact monitoring and reporting policies and strategies, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
  • Provision of regular updates and input in monitoring of project activities, to assess overall project implementation concerning project objectives, outputs, and indicators;
  • Provision of effective troubleshooting, suggestions for corrective measures to be undertaken, and making arrangements for technical assistance to implementing partners based onthe  results of monitoring, where necessary
  • Timely reporting arrangements are in place and being implemented to ensure that the reporting requirements are met promptly.
  • Timely collection of information and drafting of ‘human interest stories’ of persons impacted by the projects
  • Provision of guidance to implementing partners and serves as focal point for KZCFP IM in line with BCP’s monitoring and reporting policies, procedures, and practices;
  • High-quality data presentations, data maps, statistical spreadsheets for internal and external consumption: government, other agencies, etc.
  • An effective showcase to external stakeholders on progress made and impacts delivered
  1. Ensures effective support of the implementation of the evaluation plan, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
  • Provision of input on the needs for evaluation based on donor and or private sector partner agreements
  • Analysis based on data collection for the evaluation process as necessary and requested by independent evaluators;
  • Coordination with the project team and the stakeholders to ensure smooth conduct of the evaluation and period VCS and CCB Verifications
  • Provision of high-quality data and strategic inputs for improving the existing IM systems and platforms.
  • Timely implementation of evaluation recommendations.
  1. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the area of impact monitoring and reporting, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
  • Effective support to project staff in identification, documentation, synthesis of lessons learned, and best practices to be integrated into broader knowledge management efforts
  • Contribution to the Implementation of Evaluation, Knowledge Management, and Learning Strategy
  • Established system and updated documentation of research reports, studies, and evaluations are maintained. This includes the collection and documentation of relevant reports from government research bodies, national and international agencies, etc.
  • Facilitation and participation in results-oriented impact monitoring and evaluation training efforts.
  • Ensures skill set transfer happens to junior IM team members and Sector teams.

Impact of Results:

The key results have an impact on the overall performance of the KZCFP. Accurate analysis, data entry, and presentation of information are essential for effectively demonstrating progress and impact to external stakeholders.  As well as ensuring that credible, verifiable data is produced and used for securing successful Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) annual verifications.  by ensuring that monitoring systems produce credible, verifiable data.

Other Functions:

  • Utilize Collaborative, Learning, and Adapting Approaches to continually assess KZCFP progress and inform project management to assist with decision-making.
  • Assist the COO with the standardization of the Impact Monitoring Manual – IM V2 data collection methodologies across BCP’s divisions and projects.
  • Ensure and maintain KZCFP database integrity and quality.
  • Train KZCFP staff and other BCP IM staff, and project stakeholders in data collection and reporting methods, and maintain the standards required.
  • Keep track of KZCFP’s project activities and quantify beneficiaries accurately and in a well-maintained project database.
  • Conduct periodic field missions to KZCFP Sector Offices to participate in project activities, provide technical support to JIMOs and Sector Teams supporting the project partners and beneficiaries, and gather feedback.
  • Draft scopes of work and design tools for both internal and external periodic Impact Monitoring surveys.
  • Oversee the Social Monitoring surveys.
  • Ensure the overall quality and relevance of the project’s Impact Monitoring program.
  • Periodically participate in external REDD+ or general conservation events related to Impact Monitoring.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Monitoring & Evaluation, Natural Resource Management, Development Studies, Statistics, or other relevant fields of study would be desirable.
  • A master’s degree is an advantage in Monitoring and Evaluation

Experience:

  • 3–5+ years of experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), preferably in conservation, climate change, or rural development projects.
  • Experience in project management, research, surveys and data collection, analysis, interpretation, and management.
  • Knowledge of HTML, PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor), and MYSQL to maintain IM V2 website
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Metabase, LibreOffice, Excel, SPSS, STATA, or Python, and ODK Aggregate
  • Familiarity with data visualization platforms, such as Power BI, Tableau, or GIS tools.
  • Experience with data collection using Open Data Kit (ODK), management, analysis, and report writing.
  • Knowledge of SMART Connect and SMART Mobile will be an advantage
  • Strong understanding of carbon projects, impact metrics, and/or safeguards frameworks (like FPIC, gender, or environmental safeguards).

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency (both oral and written) in English.

Other Requirements:   

  • Familiarity with REDD+ development projects (VCS, CCB Standards) would be desirable.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Full-time availability is essential.
  • Up-to-date computer skills required, knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.
  • Experience in handling web-based management systems would be advantageous.
  • Basic front-end web design skills would be advantageous.
  • Excellent report writing skills, including Annual Monitoring Reports (AMRs), donor reports, or technical verification documents.
  • Effective communication with internal and external audiences.
