BioCarbon Partners Named Best Monitoring Report in 2026 Environmental Finance Voluntary Carbon Market Rankings

BioCarbon Partners (BCP) has been named Best Monitoring Report in the 2025 Environmental Finance Voluntary Carbon Market Rankings, recognizing the strength of our approach to measuring, reporting, and demonstrating the impact of our conservation and climate finance projects.

For BCP, monitoring is about more than measuring tonnes of carbon.

It is about understanding what happens when climate finance reaches the landscapes where conservation is taking place and the communities who are helping to protect them.

Today, BCP’s projects protect more than 6.8 million hectares across Zambia and Mozambique and benefit more than half a million people. More than US$19 million has been distributed directly to communities across 32 Chiefdoms, supporting locally identified priorities including health, water and sanitation, education and livelihoods.

Since inception, carbon revenues have supported 460 community development projects across our landscapes. These investments are identified through structured community needs assessments and managed through Community Forest Management Groups, helping communities direct finance towards priorities that matter locally.

The impact extends to household economies too. In the Luangwa Community Forests Project, household incomes increased by 56.8% between 2020 and 2022, followed by a further 27.1% increase between 2022 and 2024. In the Lower Zambezi REDD+ Project, household incomes have risen by 152% since inception.

These figures sit alongside hundreds of individual stories of change, from communities investing in clean water and healthcare to farmers adopting more resilient agricultural practices and local people taking on roles in conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

This is what we mean when we talk about the value of the “+” in REDD+.

The carbon is important. Protecting forests and reducing emissions is critical to addressing climate change. But the value of climate finance can extend far beyond the carbon when communities are able to use that finance to address their own priorities and build more resilient futures.

We are deeply grateful to the Governments we work alongside, traditional leaders, community partners, conservation organizations, technical and implementation partners, and the carbon buyers who continue to support high-integrity climate action.

Most importantly, we thank the communities we partner with. Their leadership, knowledge and stewardship are at the heart of our work and are what make these impacts possible.

We are proud to have our monitoring recognised by Environmental Finance, and we remain committed to continuing to measure, learn and improve as our projects grow.
