Participation in Local Traditions to Strengthen Partnerships

Supporting and respecting the local traditions and cultural practices of the diverse Chiefdoms we work with is key to creating lasting partnerships with our project partners.

BCP’s Nyimba team in Eastern Province, which forms part of our largest REDD+ Project; the Luangwa Community Forests Project (LCFP), had the honor of participating in the Tuwimba Traditional Ceremony of the Nsenga people.

It is a significant event that brings together three of BCP’s 17 partner Chiefdoms in the LCFP: Luembe, Mwape, and Nyalugwe, to celebrate their shared heritage.

The Tuwimba ceremony is an annual event that gives thanks to ancestral spirits and God for a successful harvest. The Tuwimba ceremony also acts as a traditional rain-calling ritual performed by the Nsenga people to pray for good rain, amongst other blessings.

Thank you to the Nsenga people for including us in this enriched ceremony!

Voted the Best Individual Offsetting Project in 2021 and 2023, BCP’s CCB Triple Gold Verified LCFP is the largest REDD+ Project in Africa. Having welcomed 5 new Chiefdoms to the Project in 2022, LCFP now protects over 1.2 million hectares of dryland forests across 17 Chiefdoms in Zambia.
