Conservation Updates

Run with Rangers. Race for Wildlife.

On Saturday 21st September, the 2024 Tusk Wildlife Ranger Challenge brought together more than a thousand rangers from across 18 countries in Africa. They ran a coordinated 21km virtual race from their respective protected areas. Almost 1,500 public supporters from around the globe joined them in solidarity – running, or walking, wherever they were in the world, to show they are #ForWildlifeRangers
Team BCP (BioCarbon Partners) was no exception!
Joining the race remotely from BCP’s Lower Zambezi REDD+ Project’s Scout headquarters in Rufunsa – We’re extremely proud of BCP Scouts; Ceaser Bwalya, Vincent Mbao, Patrick Kanyanta, and Robson Chitesheni for their achievement of qualifying 6th out of 87 teams who competed from all around Africa.
This year BCP’s CEO, Nic Mudaly supported our fellow partners in the landscape and participated in the 11 km route through Kafue National Park,
“Kudus to the African Parks team and fellow sponsors who did a phenomenal job with the event organizing and ensuring we were all safe participants on the day. The spirit of conservation, uniting teams from all across Zambia at the event on Saturday created an environment of hope and confidence for the future of Zambia’s largest national park”.
The Zambian event this year was attended in person by over 300 participants from all walks of life, conservation and tourism partners from within the landscape as well as broader individual participants from across the country, all gathering to salute our fellow rangers/ scouts and emphasize the important role they play in ecological protection.
BCP has begun the development phase of our eagerly anticipated KZCFP (Kafue-Zambezi Community Forests Project) to unlock benefits for approximately 280,000 people across 1.9 million hectares in Zambia. KZCFP targets the conservation of a significant part of the Kavango-Zambezi (KAZA) wildlife corridor, anchored by the Kafue National Park (KNP) – Zambia’s oldest and largest National Park at 22,400 km².
